To assist the career development of students, Students For Liberty will regularly post job and internship opportunities for students dedicated to liberty in organizations interested in liberty. We will begin posting internship opportunities for Summer 2009 to kick this off.
Washington, D.C. Internships
Cato Institute, www.cato.org
Mission: The mission of the Cato Institute is to increase the understanding of public policies based on the principles of limited government, free markets, individual liberty, and peace. The Institute will use the most effective means to originate, advocate, promote, and disseminate applicable policy proposals that create free, open, and civil societies in the United States and throughout the world.
Internship: Summer 2009 Internship
Description: Cato interns assist policy staff as researchers; work with the conference department to organize policy conferences, debates, and forums; attend seminars and conferences; and assist Cato’s professional staff by copying and filing newspaper articles, distributing materials to congressional offices, and preparing mailings. In addition to their research and other duties, interns take part in regular seminars on politics, economics, law, and philosophy, as well as a series of lectures and films on libertarian themes. (Summer interns are also encouraged, but not required, to play on the Institute’s softball team.)

Mission: The mission of IHS is to support the achievement of a freer society by discovering and facilitating the development of talented, productive students, scholars, and other intellectuals who share an interest in liberty and who demonstrate the potential to help change the current climate of opinion to one more congenial to the principles and practice of freedom.

Description: The Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program offers internships in public policy located in Washington, DC, and at state-based policy organizations across the country. Description: Want to fly to LA and work on a feature film? Dig into a freedom-oriented, social issue documentary? Assist in the production of an upcoming television comedy? Maybe you’re more into CGI, animation or video game writing and development? The Institute for Humane Studies Production Internship Program places interns in all these areas at industry leaders and new, cutting-edge companies.

Mission: Reason is the monthly print magazine of “free minds and free markets.” It covers politics, culture, and ideas through a provocative mix of news, analysis, commentary, and reviews. Reason provides a refreshing alternative to right-wing and left-wing opinion magazines by making a principled case for liberty and individual choice in all areas of human activity.
Internship: Burton C. Gray Memorial Internship
Description: The job includes reporting and writing for reason and reason online, helping with research, proofreading, and other tasks. Previous interns have gone on to work at such places as The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, ABC News, and reason itself.
