Students For Liberty will provide support for high schoolers dedicated to liberty to assist them in the college search and application process.
Contact Students on Campus
College is as much about your opportunities outside the classroom as it is about your opportunities inside the classroom. Student organizations are an important component of any student’s college experience. Campuses that already have student groups dedicated to liberty provide a myriad of opportunities for students to study liberty in-depth and promote liberty while in college. As well, speaking with students on campuses you’re interested in is a great way of finding out what the campus environment is like and how well the school receives ideas of liberty.
If you would like to speak with students at a college of interest, SFL is happy to put you in touch with our students on that campus. Just email info@studentsforliberty.org with the subject “College Search Contact Request” and let us know what schools you are looking at.
Free Speech
When considering what college you want to attend, students should take into account the level of academic freedom and free speech on college campuses. It’s not the case that all schools respect free speech. For example, some schools restrict student speech to excessive degrees including defining “free speech zones” that allow students to express controversial opinions only in a limited geographical area and for a short period of time. To research whether the schools you’re interested in support free speech or not, check out the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education’s Spotlight resource, which gives an overview of the school’s free speech or speech code policy across the U.S.
