Students For Liberty Condemns Extremism
August 29, 2017

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – In the wake of the tragic events in Charlottesville, Virginia a few weeks ago, libertarian campus group Students For Individual Liberty is celebrating their 30th anniversary at the University of Virginia by hosting Dr. Tom Palmer Tuesday night at 7:00 PM (tonight).

The event will focus on the history of the libertarian student movement in advancing individual liberty for all people. Dr. Palmer’s speech will discuss the history and impact of the student libertarian movement, especially pertaining to free speech and tolerance. Libertarians have long been at the forefront of speech rights and the advocacy of nonviolence.

Dr. Palmer spent the early years of his career translating and smuggling books, fax machines, and photocopiers into Eastern Europe in order to spread the ideas of classical liberalism. Today, he continues to serve the global community as the Executive Vice President of International Programs for the Atlas Network.

David Clement, Director of North American Programs, said that “Students For Individual Liberty at UVA has a long and thorough history in the student movement for liberty. It is only fitting that we are co-hosting Dr. Tom Palmer to honor their 30th anniversary, and discuss liberty in the wake of the white-nationalist protest in Charlottesville.”

The event will take place in the Student Activities Building at the University of Virginia on Tuesday, August 29, at 7:00 PM EST.
