Executive Director Financial Technology Indonesia

M. Ajisatria Suleiman is a public policy & regulatory professional, as well as a public law scholar. He is experienced in trade law, financial service regulation, natural resource governance, and digital policy. He founded a research-based advocacy group seeking to promote fairer and more open regulatory environment in Indonesia. He is also an angel investor in the area of legal technology.

In various capacities, he has worked for all branches of the State (the executive, the parliament, and the judiciary), and is experienced in working for the private sector (multinationals, startups, and international government affairs firms), trade associations, academic institutions, NGOs, and development agencies.

Alfi Syahrin is a member of the Students For Liberty Charter Teams, who is currently working as an Assistant Researcher in Center of Economic and Development Studies, an economic research institution in Indonesia. He graduated from Padjadjaran University with a degree in Economy. He joined the International conference of the Indonesia Regional Science Association (IRSA) in Bali (2015) to present his research about Economics and health. Furthermore, Alfi has participated in a training by the Center of Indonesia Policy Studies (CIPS) about public policy and role of low-cost, private school to solve Indonesia’s education problem (2015).

Alfian Banjaransari is an entrepreneur and contributor to SFL Indonesia. A graduate from the University of Manchester majoring in Innovation Management, Alfian is passionate about finding solutions to everyday's problems. Partly inspired by his recent foray into fatherhood, Alfian's latest venture is Milqy Way, a platform encouraging breastfeeding among working moms.

A former journalist for Indonesia's largest online media, Alfian became critical of what he describes as "a left leaning media bias". Alfian has since developed a keen interest on introducing libertarian ideas to Indonesia's youth.

Bryan Cheang leads the Singapore chapter of Students for Liberty. He is a graduate of the National University of Singapore and is currently a graduate student at the Department of Political Economy at King's College London. His academic interests are in the areas of Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), specifically in how market institutions promote human welfare. He is currently researching into the relationship between classical liberalism and the East Asian economic development experience. He also has experience working in the Singapore civil service concerning business policy.

Carmelo Ferlito is Adjunct Faculty Member at the Malaysia Campus of University of Wollongong (Australia), hosted at INTI International College Subang, Subang Jaya, Malaysia, where he teaches “History of Economic Thought” and “Microeconomic Theory and Policy”. Since 2012 he is Senior Fellow at the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), a free-market think-tank based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Furthermore, he is also the founder of the university group “Friedrich A. von Hayek Institute Malaysia.

 

In 2003 he earned a M.Sc. in Economics at University of Verona (Italy) and in 2007 a Ph.D. in Economic History at University of Verona (Italy). From 2004 to 2009 he worked with the following Italian universities: University of Verona, University of Macerata and Salento University. His research and teaching activities covered Economic History and History of Economic Thought.

His research activity is presently devoted to develop Austrian Economics. He is particularly interested in the business cycle theory developed by the Austrian School, in particular by Friedrich A. von Hayek and, more recently, by Ludwig Lachmann and Roger Garrison. However, his theory is strongly influenced by Schumpeter and Spiethoff. He is interested also in capital and monetary theories and in the socialist economic calculation debate; his view on this points is influenced in particular by Jesus Huerta de Soto.

He is a member of the following scientific institutions: Southern Economic Association (Chattanooga, TN, U.S.A.), Society for the Development of Austrian Economics (Sydney, Australia), Malaysian Economic Association (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), Ludwig von Mises Institute (Auburn, Alabama, U.S.A.).

Celeste Arenas is the Operations Director of the Australian Taxpayers Alliance, a leading Australian advocacy group committed to representing taxpayers. She is an Arts graduate of Sydney University, previous Fundraising and Finance Director of Australia and New Zealand Students for Liberty and has also represented the Institute of Public Affairs as a campus coordinator of the Generation Liberty program. She is passionate about free markets, particularly in developing nations where they have proven to eliminate poverty.

Daniel Issing is a graduate student at the University of Munich and the Laboratory for Theoretical Physics in Annecy, France, majoring in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics. He has a strong interest in philosophy and economics.

Furthermore, he is currently a Charter Teams Associate at Students For Liberty (SFL), as well as a Member of the European Executive Board of SFL and two-time organiser of SFL'S Heidelberg Regional Conference. Fellow of the Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation.

Legal Scholar

David Director Friedman is an American economist, physicist, legal scholar, and libertarian theorist. He is known for his textbook writings on microeconomics and the libertarian theory of anarcho-capitalism, which is the subject of his most popular book, The Machinery of Freedom. Besides The Machinery of Freedom, he has authored several other books and articles, including Price Theory: An Intermediate Text, Law's Order: What Economics Has to Do with Law and Why It Matters, Hidden Order: The Economics of Everyday Life, and Future Imperfect.

David Friedman is the son of economists Rose and Milton Friedman. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1965, with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and physics. He later earned a master's and a Ph.D in theoretical physics from the University of Chicago. He is currently a professor of law at Santa Clara University, and a contributing editor for Liberty magazine.

Donovan Choy is an active member of the Libertarian Society Singapore and the Singapore chapter of SFL. It was not too long ago when he denounced the profit motive, believed in the necessity of a state to curtail big corporations, and would have casted a vote for Bernie Sanders. He slowly changed his beliefs when he first stumbled upon the works of economists Hernando de Soto and Frederic Bastiat. Donovan is currently pursuing a Masters in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) with a specialisation in Austrian Economics at CEVRO Institute in Prague. He enjoys satire, Spaghetti Westerns, the Wu-Tang Clan and is an advocate of logic, laughter and liberty.

Imantaka Nugraha

Imantaka Nugraha is one of the co-founders of SFL Indonesia and currently serves as their president. Imantaka initiated and co-founded SFL Indonesia in August 2015 right after he attended the International Society for Individual Liberty world conference in Bali, where he met many SFLers from all around the world. Since then, SFL Indonesia has grown rapidly into an organization that inspired many other SFL chapters in Southeast Asia. He has spoken at many events in the entire Pacific region on topics such as the sharing economy and Uber, the liberty movement in Indonesia, religious freedom, free market environmentalism, inefficiencies of state-owned businesses and so forth.

In February 2017, Imantaka graduated from the Universitas Indonesia’s Faculty of Law after writing his thesis on the cryptocurrency Bitcoin – this was the first time that Austrian economists such as Rothbard, Mises and Menger were cited in a thesis written at the university! Currently, he is in the process of expanding his thesis into a book.

Earlier this year, he was chosen as one of the three finalists for SFL’s Student Of The Year Award and attended the ceremony in Washington during the ISFLC. At the moment, he works as a legal associate in one prominent market-entry consultancy firm in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Kyle Walker is the Senior Director of Academic Programs at Students For Liberty. In this role he is responsible for curriculum and programs that train students to be more effective advocates for liberty. Prior to joining SFL, Kyle worked for three years as an instructor at the Charles Koch Institute. He also spent two years with AmeriCorps in Los Angeles helping middle and high school students prepare for college admissions. Kyle is a former Fulbright Fellow at the University of Vienna. He received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and psychology from Canisius College and his master’s degree in philosophy from Georgia State University.

Mary J. Ruwart is a retired biomedical researcher and libertarian speaker, writer, and activist. She was a leading candidate for the 2008 Libertarian Party presidential nomination and is the author of the award-winning Healing Our World.

Ruwart has served on the Libertarian National Committee, and was a keynote speaker at the 2004 Libertarian National Convention. Ruwart has also served on the boards of the International Society for Individual Liberty, the Fully Informed Jury Association, and the Michigan chapter of the Heartland Institute.

Matej studied business and economics at the University of Ljubljana and majored in the psychology of selling in 2010. He also served first as a Local Coordinator in 2012-2013 and then on the Executive Board of European Students For Liberty in 2013-2014.

He is co-owner and co-director of Lango, a family business he took over with his brother in 2009 at the age of 24. Matej has lectured on topics of entrepreneurship and economics, and is a staunch libertarian and a proponent of the Austrian school of economics.

Nicole Annabella, an SFL Charter Teams member, is a law student at the University of Indonesia, currently majoring in Public International Law.

In 2016, she served as the Conference Manager of the first ever Southeast Asia Students For Liberty Conference back in 2016, which was held in her hometown Jakarta, Indonesia.

 

She had been a member of several student organizations, such as the Asian Law Students Association. Nicole has won several national competitions in debate and Model United Nations.

Oscar Darmawan is an entrepreneur and Founder of Bitcoin Indonesia. He is a Bachelor Information Technology and System from Monash University in 2006. He is currenty leading two IT companies in Indonesia acting as CEO and Managing Director supporting Indonesia government projects ,military and private companies.

He started his career by joining Singapore’s IT Company and handling crucial IT project in many Singapore’s Government Projects. Furthermore, Oscar is also a Certified Ethical Hacker. He’s also an experienced Active Forex Trader since 2005.

Rainer Heufers is the Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Indonesian Policy Studies in Jakarta, Indonesia. Being strictly non-partisan and not-for-profit, CIPS suggests policies that are based on the belief that only civil, political, and economic freedom allows Indonesia to prosper. CIPS policy proposals are being formulated to support current decision making processes in the legislative and executive branches of the Indonesian government.

Moreover, Heufers is the founder and Managing Director of Siap Solutions Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based training and consulting firm.

He is also a Senior Fellow of the Atlas Network. Heufers designed the first Atlas Think Tank MBA in 2008 and has since conducted these annual flagship-trainings of the Atlas Network where top think tank leaders from around the world develop individual business plans for their organizations.

Tyler Prochazka is a Features Editor at Basic Income Earth Network. Prochazka received degrees with honors in Economics, International Affairs and Asian Religions and Cultures. His honors’ thesis was a comparative analysis of Chinese and American youth political perceptions. While at WKU, he also learned Mandarin and studied abroad in China three times.

Prochazka has participated in research fellowships and internships at the American Enterprise Institute, National Center for Policy Analysis and Rand Paul’s (R-Kentucky) Bowling Green Senate office.

Currently, Prochazka is completing a Master’s degree in Asia Pacific Studies at National Chengchi University in Taiwan through the Fulbright scholarship.

Prochazka’s interest in the basic income began while attending WKU, where he started reading about the libertarian case for a basic income in Reason magazine. In the summer of 2015, Prochazka started volunteering for the Basic Income Earth Network after watching a documentary featuring Guy Standing.

Since 2016, Prochazka has been the features editor for BI News. He has concentrated much of his research on the feasibility and implications of implementing a basic income in Asia Pacific countries. For his WKU economics thesis, Prochazka conducted an economic analysis of the minimum income guarantee in China (dibao) and the prospects of replacing the dibao with a universal basic income.
